"Five Children and It" is a classic children's novel by E. Nesbit, published in 1902. It follows the adventures of five siblings - Cyril, Anthea, Robert, Jane, and the baby brother Lamb - who discover a grumpy sand-fairy called Psammead with the ability to grant wishes. Each day, they make wishes that lead to comical misadventures. From becoming unrecognizable after wishing to be beautiful to getting trapped in a bell tower after wishing for wings, the children learn that wishes can have unintended consequences. Even their baby brother is not spared from the mischievous wishes.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Edith Nesbit (1858–1924), also known as E. Nesbit, was an English writer and poet who captivated young readers with her children's books.  Settling in Halstead, Kent, later became the inspiration for her beloved novel "The Railway Children." Nesbit began her writing career in the early 1880s and gained recognition as one of the earliest modern writers for children. Her extensive repertoire includes almost forty children's books, encompassing picture books, novels, and short stories. Popular works like "The Story of the Treasure Seekers," "The Wouldbegoods," "The Revolt of the Toys," and "The Railway Children" remain cherished classics in children's literature.
